For the tenth Mirakelmusik release we're back in Sweden with the debut ep of Bluedark aka Erik Glans. However Bluedark is no newbie, he has been making music for ten years and has had music play in movies, on the radio and online. Currently he is working on the soundtrack for a new online game called Mistlands.
Explorations far below is an ambient journey which takes you down beneath the surface and into the depths of the oceans. For almost thirty minutes Bluedark gives us dark ambient with whispered vocals and sparse samples mixed together with the dense textures and deep drones.

Notes
I happily found another unsung gem today, hiding away on the fairly new netlabel Mirakelmusic. From stark, exposed ambient drones to brittle and elegant textures, Bluedark - Explorations far below certainly has its moments. Occasional whispers vividly decorate the saturated low frequency incursions, and this makes Explorations seemingly more original than a lot of the darker ambient IÂve found on netlabels recently.
Erik Glans, the musician behind Bluedark, has made this release consistent, and allows time for each of his ideas to breathe. Sometimes his explorations choose to lead us to new territory, or we are lead back to where we started. ÂThe old ship under the ground takes us to brittle and distorted territories, bringing to mind ghosts fixed in time, decaying, but strangely this feels natural and is one of the least melancholic tracks on the EP.
ÂHidden words", however, is deep and more worrying. Glitches and rhythms ring out and are swallowed back into darker regions, followed by more whispers. These voices push these tracks back into consciousness as they drift out of awareness, a powerful device in its subtleness. Some of these pieces seem to hang like audio sculptures in my mind, and theyÂd make good soundtracks to BeksinskiÂs style of painting. ThatÂs an entirely personal observation, however, you may see it in a different way altogether.

This is powerful work. He reminds me of Biosphere - you know , the kinda guy where you suspect that he might be getting his music from alien sources.
This music is just too suggestive to be your everyday johnny-come-lately Earth-bound ambient.
This is space music with a purpose and a message. And all done without words.

This is great drone like stuff. It indeed manages to create images of a barren underwater world in your mind, which is great. Dark this certainly is, so the name of the group is chosen well ;) Get this. together with Mortesium's "Dream State" this is among the best releases on this netlabel.

In der Tat lassen die Lieder Assoziationen mit einer dunklen Unterwasserwelt zu, und wer will, kann mit hinabtauchen. Ich kann es jedenfalls empfehlen.
