- Topics
- Electronic Hip-Hop, Experimental, Bleep, Electronic
The line between electronica and outright musical experimentation blurs more on a daily basis. Richard D. James and Kid 606 are hailed as pop/underground culture heroes, bringing with them work that in the past would have been at home only in the most academic or at least iconoclastic setting. The up and coming Headphone Science mines this vein, drawing from the before mentioned artists as well as John Cage, Lee Perry, and The Orb in seemingly equal measure.

If you thought experimental music is a bit iffy, wait till you listen to this monster of an EP. To keep things short, this is a great EP that features one of the best grooves that IâÂÂve heard in the past 3 months. So, slide in, relax and be introduced to a totally new sound. Three wonderful tracks for a great weekend. If only all experimental music was this cool.
Favourite tracks:
Cityscape Tracer
Hiphop vocals used in a totally radical way. If hiphop vocals are not your thing, you still should listen to it just to feel how cool the percussion is. The kick drum shakes not only the house but also elements in the music. You can actually hear stuff chatter after a kick. How cool is that?

... and quantum physics theory tells us that nothing impossible, just unlikely. Welcome to Headphone Science's Setsumei. Here's an album
with chilled out grooves, technical wizardry that stands on its own to own, and abstract beats and samples to rival even the most myopic innovator. This album has all the hallmarks of being a "Never-Heard Classic." Comparable to Anti-Pop Consortium or a very ambient, chilled out, coherent Prefuse 73.
