still - and again even some time after my first contact with the music of carsten "alcyon" büttemeier on the third wellenform-release I keep on asking myself "what is it in his sound creations, that keeps touching me?"
is it the tempting quality of sound and space ? phantastic creatures made of sound that whiz around me, almost touchable ? or is it the melodic background, like watercolors, that is giving the sound pearls its shine ?
I close my eyes and let it get inside: the underwater world of this kingfisher bird (alcyon). he does not answer any of my questions but leaves no wish unfulfilled. except for one, that more tracks like this dreamlike "wintermute", these tangible "irrlichter" (will-o´-the-wisps) or soundmovies like "nebelbank" (fog bank) come from alcyons quill (or feather ?).
whoever has not yet found his musical "nirvana" might find it here, in carsten büttemeier´s rare and beautiful mixture of tense, clicking ambient and enchanting electronica. this combination, which in tracks like "irrlichter" (remember klaus schulzes "irrlicht" from 1972) and with sometimes substantial instrumentation (reminding of the huge analog synths, although created within the computer) has nothing in common with the random noises of the self elected avantgarde. no doubt, this is art, resulting from an impressing talent.

Subject: Stunningly atmospheric...
First off-- I can't believe this hasn't been reviewed in nearly F I V E years-- it is too good to drift off into archive obscurity...
Thankfully, the boys in Sternenspringer included "Wintermute" in their op3n mixtape (also nearly 5 years ago) and that is how I heard it just yesterday. They used it as a sort of jaw-dropping closing track. After listening to the song four times, it seemed essential to give it a little praise.
Although I wish the drippy noises were a little less prominent- the rest makes up for the overall cohesive feel- like a blinding snowstorm in your head with no escape- only deep, dark, impenetrable night- in the most beautiful of ways. Look up "atmosphere" in the dictionary and this song may begin to play the moment you open the book-

Es zischt, rauscht, knistert und knackt in einer sehr ambienten Art und Weise ... perfekt.
