Saz, percussion and didgeridoo pieces, largely improvised, recorded in Stevens Point and Shawano, Wisconsin in early 2001.
Notes
Ryan Biesack - South Indian tambourine Vincent Miresse - various percussion, didgeridoo Matthew - saz "Ambee Dagez" is based on a traditional Armenian tune. "Swedish waltz" is based on a traditional Swedish waltz, rather unsurprisingly. "The Duke of Argyll's..." is based on a riff (in seven) which Matthew came up with some years earlier. There's an Ail Fionn version here. "unidentified Irish tune" is based on a traditional Irish tune. "Welsh Faery Dance" is very loosely based on a traditional Welsh tune. These were all recorded live on WWSP 90FM, 16/02/01. We were invited to play on a programme called Club Wisconsin hosted by local music scene enthusiast (and musician) Maggie Weiser. We'd met a couple of weeks earlier and were just playing as "Matt, Vinnie and Ryan" for lack of a better name. Maggie actually ran a "name this band" contest during the programme, which resulted in some rather amusing suggestions. The remaining pieces were recorded in a hall in Shawano on 23/02/01 when we were accompanying the "Screaming Gypsy" bellydance group. Their 'whooping' sounds are occasionally audible. We did a few gigs with them, but this is the only one which made it onto tape. Most of what got recorded was unlistenably distorted, but there are some nice moments which were salvageable. |
