Jim played (and still occasionally does) with Red Dog Green Dog. We also had an artist called Lou Phillips working away at the back of the church while we were playing. Here's what she produced during the first set. All our tracks get uploaded with the default title "untitled" since, as a collective, we have no straightforward way of deciding on anything! We are inviting listeners to suggest more interesting titles for our pieces. If any occur to you, please leave a little review (it's easy - see the link below) in which you suggest them. You can tell us what you think of our music at the same time. Any suggested titles we like may end up getting adopted. File names encode recording information, as follows: "010605-d2t1x2-2130to2412.mp3" would be excerpt 2 from track 1 of minidisc 2 (running from 21:30 to 24:12 of that track) recorded during the session on 1st June 2005. Sessions are usually in two parts - we fill one disc, stop for tea, and then fill another disc. |

Anyone who follows the reviews on www.tonstrom.de should be familiar with this loose collective "Children Of The Drone" from Exeter who meet irregularly to have a good time and improvise some drony music. These sessions are often recorded and released via archive.org's open source audio category.
The Children Of The Drone are releasing often, and as is to expect (especially with fully improvised music) there are pieces that are able to convey the atmosphere to the outside listener, and others are not. This however might be the best they have done so far, with an ecstatic buildup, real dynamics and everybody getting real LOUD during piece 3. Very nice improvisation with piano, percussion, poetry, several string instruments, wind instruments and voices singing and reciting poetry. Even as an outside listener you can actually feel how the musicians connect and get into the flow. Egos step back and music becomes the centerpiece. To me the other pieces are nice, but these first three pieces definetely are the best and very much worth downloading this session.
As usual with Children Of The Drone's music it is highly recommended to listen with headphones, this way you also get the beautiful atmosphere from the room they were playing in, which is St. Stevens in Exeter.
I promise to go on watching this collective and also listen to their other sessions, the ones I have not yet downloaded.
As usual, very charming and beautiful.
