Narrator: Response from General Porfirio Diaz, President of the Mexican Republic, to a letter from Mr. Tomas A. Edison.
Diaz: Chapultepec, August 15, 1909.
Mr. Tomas A Edison, esteemed and good friend: I refer to your welcome on the 8th of July. I also, like you, remember with pleasure when I was glad to meet you and your adventurous experiments, making me part of your unbreakable faith in the graceful advance of empirical science. It was there in your country, in the first days of electric lighting in New York, and since then I perceived you were a talented hero, a champion of hard work, and the one that will discipline the fire torn from the heavens by [Benjamin] Franklin to perpetuate here on earth your wonderful phonographic equipment – the charming voice of loved ones reproducing every rhythm, every accent, and every modulation of human language. I am happy to oblige you because I strongly respect the biggest benefactors of humanity, and you are one of them, because you have created new sources of happiness, wellbeing and richness for all humanity using the most powerful forces known: light, electricity, labor, and genius. Your friend, who proudly extends his hand, Porfirio Diaz.

Subject: Historical Recording
In this recording, Porfirio Diaz (1830-1915; president of Mexico 1876-1880 and 1884-1911) speaks about the invention of gramophone in a speaking letter to Thomas A. Edison. Porfirio Diaz was the last president of Mexico before the revolution, and thus I consider this recording a valuable historical piece.
P.S. Edison does not speak in this recording.

Spanish recording of the Mexican President and Thomas Edison. Although I don't speak spanish, it sounded like a general introduction of Edison by Diaz, and Edison talks (very fluently I might add!) in Spanish. Pretty interesting artifact.
