New Folder is the tenth Album-A-Day and thirteenth release from electronic musician and composer Adhesion. This album takes on a more experimental slant than usual - all tracks were made with virtually the same electronic instrumentation (made all in software as per usual, with some sampling). As a result, all tracks flow together/transition in some fashion. Tracks range from rhythmic & sample experimentation to nonsense robot hip-hop to extended jamming. Made on June 14th-15th, 2006.
Flag Nebula - Very experimental track, with a slight nod to Frank Zappa in the opening bars. Quickly degenerates into drum and sample-based weirdness. The song is tied together by 2 fast-moving synth themes.
Xenoffering 1 - The first jam song of the album. Slow, 4/4, and based on a Bb minor/C# major chord progression vamp with a break in the middle. Prominently features improvised, flowing synth melodies.
Crab Day - A strange hip hop experiment based on robot voices and cut-up samples. Opens with old-school hip hop style drums, and after an incomprehensible vocoder introduction, features the aforementioned vocals over a a simple bassline. The song also has a xenochronous synth jam later on in the song - it was taken from the solo of Xenoffering 1 and transposed to fit.
Type Name Of New Folder - The most experimental track of the album. An A minor pentatonic bassline accompanies ever-evolving drums in 7/4, which act as the foundation for the very xenochronous synth playing in the song. The synth line was recorded completely separate from the rest of the song - in fact, everything was muted when I played it.
Xenoffering 2 - The second jam song of the album. Slow, 6/8, with a vamp in A minor and the obligatory pseudo-break in the middle. More flowing synth improvisation, with a reverby ending.
