National Drinking Game PSA (ca. mid 1970s)

The disembodied voice shows up a lively party and manages to make everybody feel bad about drinking by having them play the "National Drinking Game" - a quiz to help determine if a person is an alcoholic.

NOTE - This clip has a complete film countdown along with a "china girl" (not a girl of Chinese origin, but a clip of an attractive girl used by film processors to ensure that colors - such as skin tones - are being accurately duplicated).

Subject: TYPICAL PSA FROM THE 1970'S
Hit you in the face with a hammer to kill a fly on your nose.

They were rather heavy handed in those days.

Subject: 2 things: that ain't Morgan freeman and the "China Girl" is white!
The African-American in this PSA looks more like Jesse Jackson (a round face) than he does Morgan Freeman (a long, narrow face).
Also, as one idiot points out, the girl in the leader 7 seconds into the clip IS white, as explained in the initial decription of the clip.

Subject: Oh Bummer! Turns Out We're All Alcholics!
Middle-aged people at a wild, drunken party are seriously bummed out by the National Drinking Game, which is actually an assessment test for alcoholism. From the looks on their faces, IâÂÂd say most of these partygoers are alcoholics, which is no surprise, frankly. Would that it be so easy to break through denial in real life.

Subject: With Morgan Freeman!
From 1971-1977 he appeared on the children's show "The Electric Company". During that time, he would often do commericals or public service anouncements. He doesn't speak to the camera unfortunately, but you can see him in an isolated close-up 2/3rds of the way in.

A Party gets spoiled when someone starts asking test questions about whether theyÃÂÃÂre an alcoholic or not. Gee, what a way to spoil the party. Least he didnÃÂÃÂt bother the China Girl!

I think this a very good ad compare to the drug related ones who are always based on lies and exaggerated facts this is a very sober film
I ll rate it 5 stars for the Universal Leader at the beginning!

Subject: Party-killer
Want to kill a party? Play this!
It's a brief but very well-done spot for alcoholism awareness, which raises the quite legitimate question: why do we drink to have fun? The acting is much better than average for a PSA, as the party-goers begin to realize they might have a problem. The 70's color film has mellowed nicely, and for you film-makers out there, it's got a classic leader as well! All that in just about a minute...you can't go wrong here.
