We release improv, electronic, sampling, nasty blues rock, free jazz, country, punk rock, accoustic instrumental, poetry, folk, any combination of the above, and anything else considered worthy to be shared. postmoderncore manifesto - from dadashopping

postmoderncore is a New Zealand-based independent label.

postmoderncore has spent most of its 7 year existence as a solely web based label.

The Negativland fan collective Snuggles has been a big influence on the philosophy of postmoderncore. I came to the conclusion that copyright was a tool used by corporations to make profits, and control artists and their music. The more I heard about sample music being squashed by copyright law, the stronger my decision that I should ignore copyright law in my own artistic creation.

postmoderncore is the flip side of my protest against copyright and the idea of music as a commodity. I decided that the best method for sharing the music and accompanying art with its audience was to offer free downloads over the internet. I also wanted to reach a wide and international audience.

When presenting either live or multitracked recordings, postmoderncore embraces the original happening as much as possible: environmental noise; limitations of the recording process and technology; and unintentional events.

As time has passed and my circle of associates and collaborators has grown, postmoderncore has matured into a label offering a variety of artists and music: free jazz; country; spoken word; noise; experimental electronics; drone; instrumental; and trash rock.

I have recently been able to expand the label to sell CD-Rs, and believe in their superiority over contextless mp3s. I have also taken the opportunity to release the first solo CDs of New Zealand's improvising great, Jeff Henderson. The two albums capture the creativity and power of Jeff's live saxophone performances.

postmoderncore will keep following its own trajectory, and I look forward to being surprised by how it all turns out.
