Can we have some freaking gratitude here? This is exactly what the archive is for. Documentation would be nice, and also a great deal of free labor. Perhaps you would care to download and repost it to your liking. In the meantime, here is a big messy pile of awesome, saved from the rapidly fading mass of pre internet pop culture. A document of both music and broadcasting, and the lyrics a social document. Shame on the haters, shame.

Subject: The Big Broadcast (WFUV-FM New York) Sunday Nights (8PM-12:00AM Est.)
These are indeed the works of the late Rich Conaty, & his New York radio show that ran for over 43 years (mostly on WFUV-FM). it's made up from classic pop & jazz recordings made before 1940. The tags here are a little screwy/misleading... but what we have here is a collection of Big Broadcasts from 2001 to 2003. "BB" stands for "Big Broadcast"..the number that follows, is the episode number (so BB # 1500 is from the 15th-hundredth Sunday in a row), & then the show's original transmission date. The show was birthday-driven, so Rich would feature monthly tributes to early & mid-20th century artists & composers .. (He told me that way, he would spotlight many "lesser-lights" not so well remembered) but many of whom he had met or reached out to in his 43 years on the air...Some became friends of his... like Arthur Tracy, Cab Calloway, Dolly Dawn, Connie Boswell & Les Paul to name a few... So no Ladya-ga-ga here, folks...So we can be thankful of that.
UPDATE: (for those who care) There is a bit of mix up regarding the episode numbers that appear in June 2002. In Episode #1498 (May 26, 2002) Rich states that the June 2nd show would be preempted. "Acoustic Edge at Symphony Space" aired in place of The Big Broadcast that night. So no show for June 02, 2002 ever took place.
The Big Broadcast returned on Sunday, June 09, 2002 with episode #1499.
Rich also states that he was behind in publishing his playlists & would "take care of it" this particular week.
(Perhaps that never happened as there were no posted playlists for #1498 nor #1499, but these recorded shows do exist.)
Sunday, June 16, 2002 would have been show #1500 - but no playlist was ever posted & this show is assumed to be "lost" from the archive.
So-- The show listed here as "Big Broadcast 1500" is in fact, actually Episode 1501 from Sunday, June 23, 2002 (8pm - 12 midnight). The actual playlist Rich posted confirms this. Furthermore in this episode, Rich says in the show's opening (after Fats' vocal refrain): "What's that ya say Fats; should have stopped at 1500--?" He also says "thank you for making #1500 happen"... So by these references, we can conclude the the actual recording of 1500th Big Broadcast is missing from the archive. Most of the 2002 playlists can still be accessed (under "Weekly Playlists") here: https://web.archive.org/web/20021204094910/http://www.wfuv.org/index.htm

I came here for some damn good music today gentlemen, what I found was horrifying. How can you claim to make a file with "good" music in it, when its so outdated, not even containing hits from last year, like the famous "Wrecking Ball", or even early 2000 hits like Madagascar's hit, "I Like To Move It". I am seriously disapointed and considering reporting you to the FDA, which my dad works for, and is very very important. So if you don't want this shityy site, which provies "good" music, then you better clean up you act.

This is a great collection! But as some have pointed out, the dates provided may not be wholly accurate.
I want to use a few of these tunes in a film - would the poster provide any info regarding the rights for these recordings? Are they in the Public Domain?
Thanks!!

Who cares what date these songs were recorded? They are all great. If you don't like what you hear, go off into the wind and listen to Lady Gaga.

Such experts. All the content on this page is from a long running radio program broadcast on WFUV, Fordham University, New York MC'd by Rich Conaty for over 30 years. The music is authentic 20's 30's (with a few rare exceptions)music first recorded on 78 RPM records or cylinder. If you take the time to listen you'll find that Conaty gives the recording date and other tid-bits of information about the song. The program is named the BIG BROADCAST hence the BB in the identity. The rest of the numbers are the broadcast date. Experts please take the time to listen before you share your ignorance.

Look, there's some great stuff here. But most of it isn't correctly identified as to date.
Why stick "1920" on stuff that ranges to the 1940s? Somebody needs to do some homework before tossing up their torrent finds on here.

Subject: Not from the 20's
Subject: Not from the 20's
The name of this collection is a misnomer, imo. These sound more like remakes of 20's-style music. Vocal style sounds suspiciously modern; take a listen to the genuine 78's of Ruth Etting and Nora Bayes for comparison. Also, one has Bing Crosby from at least the late 1940's promoting 'Holiday Inn'! Bing's 20's work includes recordings with Paul Whiteman and The Rhythm Boys, not this stuff.
Btw, what is the history of these recordings? There's nothing on here giving artists' names, song titles, when recorded, etc
