Subject: The Taper
I, Roland DeWitt recorded this with a MD and a decent pair of binaural mics, but the arena had some huge ceiling fans for the covered seats, which really made horrible wind noise for my mics. If I were to record that show again, I would try to put some sort of cover over the top of the mics, and umbrella even might have worked just the shield the wind. The wind screens obviously did nothing.
Hope everybody likes it anyway, the recording is good except for between songs and during some of the slower songs. I have recorded 8-10 311 shows in the last 6 years of going to shows. If I were to rate this show, it would be a 8.6 out of 10. Only for the annoying wind noise. The setlist is killer, and the show was absolutely amazing. Atlanta always gets a good setlist and a great crowd.

Subject: ok, this is good
he says hesitantly. It's too bad about the wind noise. It really envelops the sound at times. But the audio quality is all there, regardless.

Notes

* Missing a few seconds from a disc change.

Notes: The 10' mic stand did reduce the crowd noise significantly. However it increased wind noise since it was an open amphitheatre. I decided to leave it alone during the mastering process so I wouldn't alter the sound of the band. Fortunately, the bass filter cut out the majority of the low wind frequencies below 195 Hz, so it sounds better than it would otherwise.
