It was about 2001 and Andy told me that Stewart of 555 Records (of Leeds/Philadelphia/Arizona) was collecting tracks for the 55th album on the label. To mark such a special point in the labels life he had decided that the record should have 55 tracks, each track being only 1 min and 5 seconds long (= 65 seconds).
To do our part we scoured the Hicc archives (1994-2001) and collected together 54 tracks (and parts of tracks) to meet this criteria. Why 54 and not 55? Well we didn’t want to be greedy.
To day (4-12-06) while tidying the house I came across an unlabeled CDR. On listening to it (in the car) I found it both confusing as I couldn’t work out who or what it was (for the first 20 tracks) and pleasing as the collected sounds evolved.
Then the memories came back.
Having been buried for over 4 years the experience of listening to this CD had changed. No preconceived ideas of the artist playing on it. No Egos. No track names.
Just 54 65-second sound bites.
Then I though we should share it with the world again. Not as a sampler displaying the talents of the collective, nor of the individual bands and artists.
But as a collection of snippets for others to enjoy and use.
Here it is, my present to you all. Listen without preconception.
Regards,
Keith Hic
PS. Although the Tracks are numbered (not named) this does not represent a recommended listening order - random is recommended. The order given was the order on the CDR I found and I know not it’s rational, possibly alphabetical or some other nonsense. PPS. One of these tracks did make it on to the 555 Records compilation.
