Dr. Davis gives the history of rape, particularly in its relationship to slavery and subsequent black history. She tells us about some of the black women who have been prominent (but unknown in White mainstream) leaders in the struggle against rape and racism. She also analyzes the rather tenuous relationship of the black civil rights movement with the women's liberation movement in regard to the subject of rape. Finally, she points to the low incidence of rape in Eastern European countries and makes some observations regarding the differences between capitalism and socialism which relate to the subject.
