354. A SOCIALIST PRESIDENT ? ? ?
We interview Willa Kenoyer, Socialist candidate for president. She not only
presents her ideas for changes in the U.S., should she become president, but
she shows how the American power structure has made it all but impossible
for a third party to present a serious challenge to the established powers.
Nonetheless, she describes the warm and positive reception which she and her
ideas meet all around the country. In addition to our interview we provide
two short presentations about the mass media from the Labor Beat program in
Chicago. One is an analysis of recent developments of media ownership and
behavior, showing how the drive toward monopoly fits into overall corporate
strategy. The second one is a not-so-satirical re-creation of a network TV
executive discussing the Fall Season with his PR man, as they talk about
tailoring programming to corporate strategy of maximizing profits, zapping
unions, and general social control.
