Deceleration Does Not Exist
In physics we try not to us the word decelerate. Instead, while moving forward, if we are speeding up we have positive acceleration and when we slow down we have negative acceleration.
What about if we're "going" backwards?
While moving backwards (negative velocity), if we are speeding up we have negative acceleration and when we slow down we have positive acceleration.
If both acceleration and velocity have the same sign that means the object is speeding up. If they have opposite signs that means the object is slowing down.
Now Answer These Questions
Is it possible to have an object that has negative acceleration and yet is moving in a positive direction? Give an example.
Is it possible for an object to have a velocity of zero and yet be accelerating? Describe.
