Subject: Outstanding Parody
This is an outstanding parody, and finding it at the Internet Archives is well worth wading through all the other self-indulgent, badly edited, and unentertaining parodies being done in droves around here. ("MOD UP" as /. says)

The genius of this work is to let the source material do most of the work, but apply clever juxtaposition. The humorous subtitles that pop up during it are not strictly necessary except to people not even vaguely clueful about the parody nature of the film, I suspect, but they work out alright as a sort of parsley garnsih to the work.

It starts out with a fundamentally smug and self-indulgent announcement of American genius, and then moves that right along to American pseudo-science (pseudo-sciences being a more palatable approach to the Humanities than the traditional approaches throughout much of 20th Century US history up to today) confidently expounding on one of the more profound riddles of human existence: what is proper conduct for a particular gender?

Well, live by the pseudo-science and live to see the pseudo-science debunked, is the moral of this parody, I'd say.

Subject: Fake but not funny
This is a fake public service / propaganda film made from real old films put together. It's not particularly funny, and it's it's not very well done either, as the inserted parts are obviously faked.

Psychology has changed and advanced so much over the past fifty years that the parody is meaningless today. Only those ignorant of modern psychotherapy, and particularly child psychology, would believe that such attitudes exist today (or ever did exist).

Often, persons take a highly complex subject, break it down into something simple enough for them to understand, and then ridicule it because it seems stupid to them.

As a matter of fact, the therapy alluded to in the film (Gender Affirmation Therapy) does still exist today, but is nothing like this film portrays, nor do psychotherapist use the word "cure" for anything these days.

I could not tell what the maker of this film is getting at.. What is the purpose of the film? He subjects carpentry to scrutiny. From my schooldays, it seems that we enjoyed it and the carpenters that I met had pride in their craftmanship. Then he takes on boxing and it is unlikely that in today,s society men would use boxing but would attack with a sarcastic tongue. I like plain talking and this film lacks this quality

Assembled from Prelinger archive films, we learn it is not good to be late, well groomed, or have friends, but it is good to like working with hard things, wear jeans, and set fires.
