Panamanian-born and New York-raised, Alex Blake draws upon his eclectic Latin and post bop experience to create exciting and original music. Blake was precociously talented as a youth, touring with Sun Ra as a teenager, and later with Dizzy Gillespie, Freddie Hubbard and McCoy Tyner, though he cites Jimi Hendrix as a primary influence. Known for the past decade as bassist for Randy Weston African Rhythms, Blakes recent CD Now is the Time, featuring Pharoah Sanders, represents his debut as bandleader.
