Hate is not enough? Revenge? That doesn't sound very Christian to me...

This 1942 promo to motivate civilians to buy war bonds was well done for the short time allotted.

The rest of the democratic world had been fighting for freedom since 1939. But in the USA, the Americans were prosperous and happy. Then the nasty Japanese spoilt it all. Shame.

This movie theater promo for War Bonds appeals strictly to the revenge motive in its audience. Apparently those who died at Pearl Harbor are waiting for the rest of America to get the nastiest revenge possible on those dirty Japs. This was made a year after Pearl Harbor, when the wounds were still festering, though, so what do you expect? It is an interesting slice of history, though, telling you much about the attitudes of the time in its short length.

It was damn good advice in 1942 and the film was short but effective. I found nothing strident or hysterical about it. I try not to judge a film like this with a 2003 sensibility.

Darkly comical. Pathetic voiceover telling us "hate is NOT enough!" and "Avenge!"

Well, whadyaknow... rhetorics sound so familiar nowadays...

A vicious promo for theaters made 1 year after Pearl Harbor happened explains that 'We all remember the sneaky japs!' and to remind us to leave the theater with vengeance in our hearts. I guess that's when the internment camps began. Slightly spooky.
