The film The Exorcist (1973; Director's Cut, 2000), and the book which inspired it were in part based on this actual case of diabolical possession and exorcism, as well as another exorcism which took place in Silver Spring, Maryland and St Louis, Missouri in 1949 involving a 14 year old boy.

Subject: Dr Sardonicus's Scientism and Chronological Snobbery
Thinking that modern science can debunk preternatural (angels, demons) or supernatural reality (God, miracles, the Creation account in Genesis, for example) is like saying the works of Aristotle are obsolete since he lived 2300 years ago. Science cannot disprove the supernatural, but scientists, just like anyone else, can deny it, but it won't be by using the scientific method. It will be by making an act of the will to disbelieve it. As one famous atheist scientist put it, when asked why he believed in Darwinism despite the lack of evidence for it: "Because the alternative is unacceptable."
"The fool says in his heart (not his mind), There is no God." (Psalm 14)
Dr Sardonicus will come to see he's wrong when he dies, but hopefully before that. Pray for him and others like him, that the scales of willful unbelief may fall from the eyes of their heart. For as Pascal might say, We only see with the heart, which guides the way for the eyes.

DrSardonicus has an appropriate name considering his attitude toward things he obviously has no idea of. Maybe he should read the book first, it's not very long. But in reality, those who don't believe in the Devil are unfortunately those the most under his power. His greatest ruse is to make people believe he doesn't exist.

The lame excuse of criminals, ne'er do wells, and other assorted dipshits throughout history. Amazing that in 2007 people take this crap seriously.

This is a very important book. It shows what the devil or Satan does, how he gains control over souls, and how to avoid his snares by which he leads so many souls to hell for all eternity. Plus it shows the power of prayer, the sacraments of the Church, and also of sacramentals such as holy water, other blessed objects, and the rosary. A great primer in spiritual warfare.
