Subject: Banjos!
Would it be so wrong to invoke in comparison the musical genius of Lou Reed, or the primal brutality of The Germs? Would it be sacrilege to allude to the capricious bombast of Captain Beefheart, or to draw parallels with the likes of Husker Du? Could one be faulted for imagining a direct link to the rock-and-roll shamanism of The Doors? Perhaps. But what is beyond dispute is that Big Wooden Boat features more banjo artistry than any previous Benalto Album.
