Johnny Mack Brown Rides Back and Forth
As the other reviewer said, a below average film from Brown with a lot of riding back and forth. Too much of the action depends on wheezy old Horace Murphy (Calico Haines) who plays a Paul Revere-ish role. Claire Rochelle looks good and that's all. Perennial bad guy Dick Curtis (Bull Berke) is wasted - he stands around waiting for something to do and never gets his chance. This movie is for Johnny Mack Brown fans or western completests - otherwise, take a pass.

The Last Of The Lot
This was Johnny Mack Brown's last of a lot of eight films that A.W. Hackel supplied to Republic Pictures to pick up where John Wayne left off in 1936 when his contract holder(Monogram) took him over to the New Universal Pictures in 1937 to make pictures other than Westerns. Republic needed another Western star along side of Gene Autry to start off with until they could get their own western plans off the ground. This little film was super cheap on all levels and it shows badly. A.W. Hackel supplied a few more films to Republic starring Bob Steele as well. None of the Brown entries for Republic were very good beyond being a diverse lot.
This does have one or two things going for it. Johnny Mack Brown for one gives it the old college try, but comes off lack-luster. Clair Rochelle, who I've always liked, as sort of a bargain basement Carole Lombard type has nothing to do here and that's too bad. Otherwise it's strictly by the numbers. I own several of the films that Brown did for A.W. Hackel and Supreme Pictures made between 1935 and 1937 on DVD, but not this one. I don't know why. Watch this only if you're a Johnny Mack Brown addict, otherwise pass this by. Picture and sound quality leaves much to be desired as well.
