Subject: Incorrect year...?

I noticed some of the cars were of a newer vintage than the 1947 year on the description...some 1955 Chevys and Oldsmobiles, for instance. I looked at the year on the title card and the roman numerals indicate 1956 as the year of release. A neat film, nontheless.

Subject: Just a note:

That's not Phil Foster in this film. He was a much wider gentleman, with a full head of hair. That is, however, his voice on the soundtrack. An interesting short, but the S.F. nightlife has grown considerably "wilder" since this film was made.

Subject: Brooklyn Goes to San Francisco

Remember, this short was released in 1947; a few years after World War II. So it is very fun to see what Brooklynite Phil Foster (Laverne's father in TV's "Laverne & Shirley")has to say about this West Coast city. Just seeing how the people and the city looked in 1947 is worth the watch. We do see many of the attractions that have made SF famous, the Golden Gate Bridge and Chinatown are a few examples. Remember, this is not a professional travelogue, so open your eyes and ears and have fun with Phil as he visits San Francisco.

A bald-headed bozo from Brooklyn narrates this travelogue about San Francisco. It's not exactly, uh, an intellectual experience, but it does contain lots of historically interesting footage of 50s San Francisco, as well as a lot of bad jokes.

Subject: Brooklyn goes tuh Sahn Fransisco

In this alarmingly stereotypical and racist short, a new yawka with a accent so thick it's hard to understand at times, relates his experiences in San Fransisco. A fun overview, with many early glimpses of some famous ladmarks like the Cow Palace, Fisherman's Wharf and Chinatown. The narration is a bit awful at times. with his tenacity for bad humor and chinese jokes.
