Subject: Crumchy distortion, but good CVB set.
Looks like this was a nice long set, especially the way they have been playing 45 minutes at the Modest Mouse gigs.

There is crunchy peak distortion right off the bat with the opening notes of ZZ Top, but that seems to clear up a little as the song goes on. There is still a heavy bass thud which remains, which seems to be overloading the microphone with every kick drum hit.

Personally, I am not a big fan of MD recordings, but Jay manages to capture such nice CVB shows that I'll download most of 'em anyhow.

Subject: Great set
This might be a case of the live show being better than the recording. Maybe the energy of the band is intoxicating, or maybe its just the beer? Whatever the cause, I forgive in real-time what is exposed in the capture. It sounds like there is a bit of feedback from the drum mic(s) on Flowers, and there is a very nasty feedback burst on The Long Plastic Hallway. Once the soundman settles down, the rest of the set seems pretty bug free. With that said, the whole of the recording is bass heavy, so youll need to EQ this to get the best effect. Sometimes the high end distorts, like the violin in Abundance. Not bad considering its a mix off the floor. The band really hits a groove on the All Her Favorite Fruit, Sweethearts, That Gum You Like sequence. Also, they flat kick out the jams on "7 Languages". Overall, this is a pretty decent capture of a really good set.
