Here's Cracker headlining what really amounted to a big ol' frat party in the back yard of Wake Forest University. The young 'uns were out in full force and blowing off a bit of second semester steam at this one. This may be my favorite phase of Cracker and I really like the setlist of this show. I always appreciated David Lowery's dry, biting wit and thought he wrote some really smart songs. I also think many didn't get their due because David's occaisonal musical experimentation in Camper Van Beethoven got him stereotyped as a bit of a goof. Wouldn't want him any other way though. From a musical standpoint this was a really strong band - David and Johnny Hickman on guitars and vocals augmented by Davey Faragher (to be discovered as a gem of a sideman by many great artists) on bass and David Lovering (Pixies) on drums. You have the occaisonal bottle breakage on this one (this was the good ol' days when you went to a show and received your frosty beverage in a large, dangerous hunk o' glass) as there seemed to be a trash can every ten feet at Ziggy's. Another amusing moment - During the first track some dope gets onstage, grabs the mic and tries to sing along. There's a cheer as he's thrashed and tossed by the bouncers and you can hear Johnny give a laugh. Enjoy!
Trade only. Support Cracker and all it's members, past and present, by buying their records and merchandise and attending their shows.
