In the past week TV network news ran stories showing Gulf fishermen examining their shrimp catch to see if they could see oil on it. This plus a taste test is part of the governmentâs test according to Gina Ylitalo, a NOAA chemist: Still, she declared: 'Yes, the seafood in the Gulf is safe!' She did add however that they were still working to develop a test for dispersants.
Dahr Jamail has reported much more widespread use of chemical dispersants than the government is saying, and in all four affected Gulf states. Florida, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana have spoken with Truthout about their witnessing all of these incidents.
During the same interview Ylitalo said the government was working on another type of test to be performed for dispersants.
