This is basically a good twin/ bad twin movie with poor George Zucco playing both leads. The good twin is a self-righteous doctor; the bad twin is a vampire. There is an incestuous aspect that plays into an overall moralistic tone and drives the plot. The story moves along tediously to a predictable conclusion.

I downloaded the largest MPEG4 file available. Dark scenes showed considerable pixelation, but the video and audio are OK overall.

Subject: good old style vampire movie
George Zucco is great, he has this disarming way of simply stating what's apparent and not giving any information away so he's very believable as both actor and as a character making a lie. Regarding the comment about hunchbacks below, we don't see them as much today because the conditions that create it are preventable (mostly) and curable (mostly), so as this technology has evolved the presence of people like this in our society has become less so. In the days when this film was made, rich people had servants (many still do duh), and some made servants of people like this (some were even family but meant to be hidden) who could never fend for themselves if left to their own and for various other esoteric reasons as well. And of course in days of Kings and Queens and inbreeding of royal families quite often birth defects crept in like bleeding that wouldn't stop aka hemaphelia (not sure if I spelled that right), and other defects. History is full of the stories of those families and the problems they had. In a way, this is a parody of Beowulf and Grendle without the family in-breeding causing the evil dynamic to occur. A twist to the typical family that is cursed tale. And it only made sense when creating the vampire genre at the time it was created to use familiar family problems as a backdrop to the telling of a vampire story, it was logical and also believable and therefore scarier because it had the sense of being familiar to it, yet it was a surprise that had never been seen before. Having said that, certainly Dracula pre-dates this movie and we don't see any real difference from a typical hunted monster, mass mob chase at the end -storyline. So really it's a nice Hollywood cop out to the vampire genre featuring George Zucco and making a buck on an old theme with new places, characters and not much else.

Hadn't heard of George till watched Horror Hotel. Actually is a splendid actor. Neither film is exceptional overall, but he has a knack for holding your attention. Good quality copy also. Interesting sound.

Subject: One for Zuccco fans.
George Zucco is on great form is his dual role as the evil Zombie seeking revenge on his good brother. The rest of the cast and the script are nothing special but, when Zucco is so good, who cares.

What is it with hunchbacks in old movies?
Lots of old dialogue too that you can almost say before the characters.
Not a good movie for you "creatures of the light".
"You'll pray for death before you..." see the end of this movie.
