Hard to believe this was now over 100 years ago. I am sure if these people could see how we let our Nation slide towards Hell they would be ashamed of us.

Wow, this is great! I particularly love the cops' method of pulling over speeders (hilarious) and the "slant artists". That made my day.

Subject: When life was less complex
Early 20th century activities in Detriot when life was much simpler and innocent than our present. Historically very interesting to see. Imagine if every speeder was arrested today!

What looks to be a newsreel designed for the upper crust of society in Detroit (Polo matches?) is a fascinating snapshot of Detroit cica 1917. Still quite stunning to look at, the film offers a glimpse at some new ideas (speed cops!), some lovely parades, and of course ways to help the poor folk out (while of course, making time for the polo matches later on in the day) quite a interesting little piece, it's reccomended.

This early newsreel documents events in Michigan. I never knew that there were local and regional newsreels made, so that's a new one on me. The most interesting story involves cops who nab speeders by jumping from their motorcycles onto the cars' running boards. More surprising than that is the penalty the speeders payÃÂÃÂthey are sent to a prison workfarm! Remind me to always obey the speed limit in Michigan. The rest of the stories involve local community events such as parades, picnics, and sporting events. They're pretty standard, but they should have quite a bit of historical value for those researching Michigan history. A 1917 film.
