Subject: Before the moon.. there was Honolulu!
Somewhat blah overview of an air race to see who could get to Hononlulu at the fastest speed. Seeing this is 1927, there's obviously some sort of historical interest here.. I imagine that some of these people were famous aviators for it's time. We see plane after plane take off, as well get a face shot of the pilot(s). Quite interesting to note for the final race, we see shots for the people 'lost at sea', which could only mean that all of these shots were taken BEFORE the race began, so that had a bit of an eerie quality. The rest is sort of blah.

Subject: Dole Air Race, 1927
Newsreel story documenting a big air race from Oakland, California to Hawaii in 1927. This was in the early days of flight and a poignant note is added when the title cards tell us that a number of the competitors they show us didn't make it back alive. That, and the fact that one of the planes doesn't even make it off the ground, emphasizes how much of an adventure flying still was at that time. A historically interesting document from the early days of aviation.
