Comedy masterpiece starring Stan Laurel as the dashing Dr. Pyckle, who transforms into the fiendish Mr. Pride. This hilarious movie from 1925 shows the true genius of Stan Laurel. A gem!

A delighful little marvel
This is by far the funniest parody of Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde I've ever seen. Watch Stan's naturally comic body language and facial expressions throughout, but especially as Mr. Pride. There's the now-classic smile frozen on his face, as he strokes his ridiculous haircut and hops, jumps and teases his way through his "fiendish" activities. A tour de force performance of brilliant, gentle comedy with no equal today. Think I'll watch it again!

the Leslie Nielsen of the 20s
Durign the 1920s, Stan Laurel made a series of shorts spoofing the major, usually more serious, movies of the day. Dr. Pyckle and Mr. Pride is a spoof of the 1920 John Barrymore Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. The first half of Pyckle/Pride is a bit slow; then it is just too funny to stop watching. The humour is gentle, playing with expectations about what an "evil fiend" would do and then violating those expectations in very silly ways. Stan Laurel as Mr. Pride is almost unrecognizable and just a stitch!

Stan is a gas!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I too like Mr. Laurel but I wish the copyright laws would release their therir strangle hold on the Laurel and Hardy duos, especially their silent works.

What did he do?
Stan Laurel. As Dr. Pyckle he created Dr. Pyckle's 58th Variety (not Heinz 57) which brought out (in him and me) the kid in all of us. Great fun.

Quality and Laughs all the way
A delightful short with Stan Laurel that adds more to the appreciation of his creativity and novelty. The music soundtrack is excellent as well as the print. Once again, thank you to everyone at the Archive for making these films available.

worth your time!!!
A well done reedit of a classic. Titles and music help bring this film back for another life.
I wouldn't know it was Stan Laurel if the credits hadn't said so. Far better than a lot of what I see on TV today. Thanks!
