'Red Scarlet'Dragon Quest 2 (Super Famicom) - Endings without the Prince of Samaltria (2006)

Hello. This is not a full game playthrough, just the last dungeon and two alternate endings beating the game with just the lead character and the Princess of Moonbrooke in the party. The second prince, the Prince of Samaltria (called Cannock in the NES version of the game) can be left out of the party soon after you get the boat.

It seems that a lot of people complain about how crappy the second prince is (mainly his lack of survivability), myself included, so it seems that Enix allowed all those people who said "I'd be better off without him" to give it a try in the remake of the game.

All you do is rest at the inn at the southwesternmost town on the map, and the Prince of Samaltria will become cursed and leave the party. All you have to do to heal him is use a World Tree Leaf on him. Or you can leave him on his deathbed for most of the game for a two party member challenge.

In this video I simply load my save right before entering the final dungeon in the game, beat Atlas, Bazuzu, and Belial, then leave and save, reset the game, then beat the game with the lead Prince and Princess of Moonbrooke.

There are two versions of the ending with the Prince of Samaltria. In this first one, I talk to him as I warp back to the town he is at. When I speak to him, this is what he says:

Prince of Samaltria: "Hey (hero)!
I'm well again.

For some reason it seems my curse has lifted."

Prince of Samaltria: "Huh? Whaa?
You two beat Hargon by yourselves?"

Prince of Samaltria: "I see...I wasn't really useful, was I? Shit...
Oh well, lets go back."

Then I end the game by going back to the lead character's castle and the game appears to end like normal. Then I reset and beat the game again, this time ignoring the Prince of Samaltria. As I enter the lead character's castle, the Prince of Samaltria runs up and says:

Prince of Samaltria: "Huff...huff...
You jerks! You went on without me!"

Prince of Samaltria: "But, thanks to defeating Hargon, it seems you lifted my curse.
Prince of Samaltria: "Well, let's go!"

If you enjoy playing the game, you should also be able to play the game this way on the Game Boy Color version of the game as well, but not the NES version. Have fun!

Thanks to DJGrenola for fixing the audio and to Eric (RevenantKioku) for the translation of what the Prince of Samaltria says.
