When the dealer laughs at his canvas he snaps, and begins taking it out on the people responsible for his pain and random transients in the manner suggested by the title.Uncut Version.

Subject: Ferrara showed his stuff
After all these years, I've finally seen "Driller Killer."
This one got past me back then; and once my ex-wife walked out after ten minutes at a double feature revival, after having seen "Texas Chain Saw Massacre" for the third time.
I went with her. ( Maybe it's a good thing we didn't see the ending together, considering where our relationship was at the time. )
Well, this is no "Texas Chain Saw ..."; but it has something; and that intangible something comes from the director.
One has to say that Mr. Ferrara really knows how to get at the baser side of humanity.
Some of the acting is excellent! Most is not, but somehow appropriately so.
I especially liked the portrayal of one of the derelicts by Peter Yellin! ( at the bus stop )
The enjoyment curve begins low, slowly rises throughout, and peaks beautifully at the final cut to black!
At that moment I said "This movie is a classic of its kind."
And so it is.

Is this film in the Public Domain? Like I could make my own version of the film without asking a company?

Subject: 96 Min. Version Unlikely to be PD,
since it appears to be the most recent DVD release of The Driller Killer ("Driller Killer/The Early Short Films of Abel Ferrara"), whereas the so-called (and now outmoded) Collector's Edition-Uncut Version was released in 2001. http://www.amazon.com/s/qid=1223101152/ref=sr_nr_seeall_1?ie=UTF8&rs=&keywords=B00027JYBW%7C%20B00006IXDF%7C%20B00004VYJ3%7C%20B000038I1M%7C%20B00004CYQY%7C%206305602360&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3AB00027JYBW%7C%20B00006IXDF%7C%20B00004VYJ3%7C%20B000038I1M%7C%20B00004CYQY%7C%206305602360%2Ci%3Advd

Subject: Good bad. Or bad good. Whatever.
The badness is entertaining. The acting is hilarious. Why is this movie public domain?

Subject: Trash.
I am unaware if this movie gets better after about then minutes - the point is, if a movie can make me actually want to turn it off after a mere 10 minutes, then there just isn't a single possibility that it will be able to redeem itself.

I know it is not a valid criticism to criticize it for being no budget trash, but the fact is, it is trash and I didn't enjoy this trash.

I will continue to watch the rest, but I highly doubt it will be worth wasting my time on it.

the best punk psycho killer movie i've seen. Abel is really good at eating pizza and drilling people to death. Low budget, but lots of cool people : the junkies , the drunkyards and tony coca cola of course.

Subject: Just does't work...
I lived in Manhattan around the time this was made and enjoyed the local scenery, especially upstairs at Max's Kansas City, outside of that this film has nothing (other then nude scenes) to recommend it. Every film school cliché is piled on, from busy camera work to meaningless close ups that are meant to convey inner turmoil. Hard to believe this is the Director of ' King Of New York' . I love bad movies but this just doesn't work.
