I remember watching these Sid Davis educational flicks. I took Driver Ed in 1979 and they still showed it to us. Much of it is still true. Plus the hot babe in the red dress makes it easier to watch :-)

I find it interesting that back in the 50's that cars had to stop as illustrated when the bus was loading students; now, somewhere along the lone they eliminated this where it was only required to use the red lights to cross students as we do, we get out and physically cross them safely....about 6 years or so ago they brought the red light law back into effect and now you must always stop if a bus had the reds running.
I love how the dumbo head passes the bus as it pulls from it's stop...now that deserves a citation!

Subject: How to Drive Your Big Ugly 50s Car Through Narrow, Overcrowded Streets
This Sid Davis driverâs ed film from the 50s is very straightforward, covering such things as drunk driving, speeding, driving courtesy, and getting out of being stuck. No surprises here, but the visuals are interesting, giving you a clear color picture of what it was like to drive during the 50s. Huge 50s cars navigate on narrow, crowded streets and roads. A section covers driving over streetcar tracks, something most drivers have never seen today. And thereâs lots of cool 50s signs to be seen, as well as views of a 50s car dashboard in the section on speeding. The film also shows us what it was like to drive in Southern California, especially the section on how to get out of a stuck place. The car shown is stuck in beach sand, and although the narrator mentions snow in passing, itâs obvious to us Northerners that heâs never had to deal with it, especially when he says that the best way to deal with getting stuck is to avoid situations where it might happen, something thatâs not an option when snow is everywhere. The historical interest carries this film.

Subject: Honey, get the burlap!
Subject: Honey, get the burlap!
Fairly meandering Sid Davis films that spill out what we should do and what we shouldnt do. Unfortunately, for this film, we are shown what to do and told what we shouldn't do (less fun) rather than showing what we shouldn't do and told what we should do (more fun). Still, the film does have the odd flourish or two. The bus stopping procedure is odd, I say that because it's completly safe, wonder why that's no longer in effect. And the fact that burlap helps traction is helpful, only if you have burlap in the car.
