A young singer practices his songs in a public park. A gardener comes and listens quietly, while busy lawn-mowing continues in the background. radio-ContinentalDrift joined the two with open ears and mike. Rene came to Durban 3 month ago from the DRC. His song in honour of assassinated journalists was broadcast on several radio stations in the Congo. It earned him the respect of many people, and threatening phone calls from a few. He sings the song for us and tells the story. When Durban mowers and winds become overwhelming, we resume in a local cafe and record some more songs, such as a song dedicated to the women in the Eastern Congo, and another, to street kids in Kinshasa.
