Peter HobbsElk Radio Podcast: Episode #1

Would you like to try our new video/audio player ? (beta!)

My name is Peter Hobbs and today on Elk Radio we will be meditating on the figure of the bad animal. This will involve patching together sound clips that speak about our contradictory relations with animals – how we idolize and eat them, how we pet and fear them, how we transform them into the cute and cuddly while at the same time we perform horrifying experiments on them. We will be addressing how in the social imagination animals occupy an impossible position – they are neither good nor bad, neither innocent nor ruthless. And we see ourselves – we see human beings – as part of the animal kingdom but also removed and distinguished from all other animals. So let’s take this impossible figure – the big bad animal – for a meditative walk.
