The year of 1995 was full of emotional activity for Goff, and his audio productions from that year reflect a range of expressions, explored through varied compositional styles and recording techniques. The material on the cassette albums: "Everything'z Okay" and "Knocking At My Consciousness Door" was all recorded over the course of the same several months of 1995. Goff divided up this material for release on two 30-minute cassettes in an attempt to expand the potential listening audience. To further expand this potential, "Everything'z Okay" was released by Red Neon Tapes of Belgium, and "Knocking On My Consciousness Door" was released by ECTO Tapes of Oklahoma City. Each tape was co-released by Taped Rugs Productions as well.
Goff produced all of these recordings on a four track cassette deck. Among the sonic generators used to produce the sounds for these compositions were:
electronic guitar, acoustic guitar, micro Moog synthesizer, several modified Casio keyboards, whistles, flutes, phonographs, modified and unmodified phonograph records, prerecorded tapes, a talking parrot toy, voice, electronic sound effects, samples from television programs, various percussion, music boxes
Some Specifics:
1 The out take of "It's All Right" and "Everything'z Okay" (Track 11) was the original improvisational composition from which these two individual pieces were created. It was first released to the public by Taped Rugs on the CDR: "Variants & Vagrants" in 2004.
2 "No Me Recuerdo" features some of the many "I don't remember" responses given by maid: Rosa Lopez, during questioning by Christopher Darden at the 1995 murder trial of O.J. Simpson.
3 "For Pete's Sake" is a Goff interpretation of a song written by Peter Tork and Joseph Richards and made popular by The Monkees. The out take version (Track 9) was first released to the public by Taped Rugs on the CDR: "Variants & Vagrants" in 2004.
4 "Motivation" was the first song that Goff wrote inspired by his love for Karen Butler. The two were married in 2003. The out take version (Track 10) was first released to the public by Taped Rugs on the CDR: "Variants & Vagrants" in 2004.
5 "The Month Of Guns" was inspired by Goff's personal encounters with gang violence in his Oakland, California, neighborhood.
6 "The Sleeper" features edits from an anonymous message which had been left on Goff's (cassette format) telephone answering machine. Encouraged to "dial 311" to acquire "enormous insight and power," Goff discovered the three digits led to a sequence of tones, which Goff recorded from his telephone receiver and incorporated into this composition.
