Subject: Great radio broadcast!
The radio broadcast really captures the "experience" of an FJB show. It sounds much more "live" than soundboard recordings, with a nice mix of the crowd and the band. My first FJB show was two nights earlier. I was floored. I found out this show was going to be on the radio, so I kept excusing myself from the New Year's festivities at my parents' house to go to my room and listen and flip the tapes (Hey, I was only 16 - not quite cool enough yet to be out drinking with friends). My favorite version of Peace by Piece on any tape - a song I don't normally love, is from this show. I also like the versions of the "new" North Avenue Wakeup Call songs from this show more than how they appeared on the album or were played live after the album came out, particularly "Old Angels" and "This Could Be Soon." I wish they had kept Marty's acoustic intro to "Waitress." I dig it. Simon's drumming is off the hook. After the New Year's celebration, they hardly took a break between songs - crazy (also made it a challenge to cleanly separate the songs into tracks when transferring to CD!). Could the WXRT DJ be any more annoying? Frighteningly, he is still with the station 14 years later...
