FudgedubnofunkEscape to Canada (June 1, 2006)

This album originally started out as an 8 track EP called 'Almost Nothing' (album trax 3-10). The concept behind the EP was do something more ambient based, with fewer beats, more sparse & atmospheric and shorter trax. Really just something different to what I'd done before. So, that was that ... then I kinda decided to expand the idea. My good mate Ste Daley was emigrating to Canada, so I decided to do a 2nd EP called 'Escape to Canada' (album trax 12-19) for him. This led to me to thinking about joining the 2 EPs together. I had done the track 'Phoncompmintsnoiserah' prior to doing 'Almost Nothing' and it seemed like it might work as a bridging track to join up the 2 EPs ... the problem was that the bpm of the original track was about 80 compared to 100 for all the other trax! Anyway, I thought what the hell ... upped the bpm + it worked - HOORAH! So, there it was ... but the thing just didn't feel right, I didn't feel the title had a context - what to do? I asked an American chappy I knew (Mike McCarthy aka the therory of one) to write me a little song, which he obligingly did - just about 32 bars of music and a song with 2 verses and a basic chorus. I took the vox and part of a piano riff (for the intro) and created this kinda scuzzy trip-hop thing. With an ambienty intro whacked on the front the album was suddenly feeling much more how I wanted it, infact I personally think this is still the best thing I have done. Anyway, the September after the album was completed my mate Ste moved to Canada ... 3 months later he was back in the UK and has stayed here ever since!!
