This colloquium took place on the 7th of December of 2009 at the Getulio Vargas Foundation of Rio de Janeiro. The event promoted the dissemination of knowledge and academic research associated to the game medium. The concept of tangential learning was explored, according to which games can stimulate learning by engaging players in the experience and making them interested - not necessarily having to be educational to be beneficial.
The speakers were James Portnow, american game designer, ex-Activision (Call of Duty: Modern Warfare), and M.A. from the Carnegie Mellon University; Volker Grassmuck, german researcher of digital media from the Humboldt University of Berlim and organizer of the event Wizard of OS; Guilherme Xavier, game designer and diretor of art e design at Donsoft (Capoeira Legends); and Arthur Protasio, coordinator of the CTS Game Studies project.
