Of course this was in Western Germany-The people in East Germany didn't have it as good. Lots of pollution in the air must have contributed to bad health. Everything is seen in an idealistic
way.

A brilliant look at 1950's life in germany's ruhrgebiet. especially when you're from that region you'll simply love Familie Müller from Essen.

Subject: Herr Meher Time!
This piece, from a endlessly fascinating series of films exploring families in different lands, explores the Meher family, father works in the steel plant, Mother stays at home and looks after the twin girls, son goes off to school. This film offers richly interesting tidbits (Milk break in school for those who pay for it, Essen is a town that's just covered in smoke all day, joy) and tends not to delve into political matters, which is amazing as this film was made in 1958. Reccomended!

I am living in the described "industrial ruhr", but about 50 years later.
However, the facts decribed in this flick are really true. They are a bit hilarious if you watch it nowadays as it looks more like a museum kind of thing.
It was great fun watching this movie.
If you are German, watch out for the "Karl Albrecht" corner shop. It is now known as Aldi (Nord).
And if you are from Essen, have a look at the B224 (it is an interstate).
