chalkwhitehandsGhost Army (August 1, 2008)

Ruling a line under eight years, this represents all the work from the beginning of chalkwhitehands that seems worth keeping. From early noise cut and paste and drones to more recent work this album (presented in chronological order) traces the development of chalkwhitehands.

Subject: What's it all about then?
1. And you can dance to it.

Earliest piece on the album. Basically an exercise in using the doppler effect. Probably the closest thing to "drone" that I've done.

2. Values

Started life as a corporate presentation Powerpoint file before being imported into a wave editor as raw data then being choped, cut, pasted and sliced and diced.

Once caused a group of school children who heard it to report their CD player as malfunctioning.

3/4. 1st and 2nd related pieces

Beginning of a more complicated, layered way of working. A drone in the background is overlayed with a variety of acoustic and electronic sounds.

5 - 14. Opfuza Ekuf Keui Azuipo

10 short (1 minute each) pieces that form a suite. Play it in any order with as many or as few of the ten pieces as you prefer. You should also feel free to time stretch the pieces. Any length between 30 seconds and 10 minutes will produce interesting results.

15. fire/RIVER.call

15 minutes long, palindromic and set to test the patience of any listener. Play it low in the background and it's soothing in the same way that, say, an airconditioner humming or constant traffic noise might be. Or play it loud and annoy the neighbours.

16 - 19 Reference Points 0-01 - 0-04

Four pieces that almost sound like imaginary instruments playing what could nearly pass for real music.

20-24 Music for the God of Random Things

Having worked for about six months on a set of pieces for an album at the last moment I decided that they were unreleasable. These pieces came along in about two weeks and were just what I set out to do in the first place. The God of Random things was hard at work during that time.
