St. Gildas the WiseOf the Ruin of Britain (De excidio Britanniae) (January 30, 2007)

One of the few sources for Britain's history between the time the Romans left and the conversion of the Saxons. We hear all about Vortigern (or Gurthtigern) and the Saxons, and we also hear some juicy bits about Aurelius Ambrosianus. Unfortunately for historians, it comes in the form of a letter, criticizing Britons from the generation after the battle of Mount Badon for not being as virtuous as their 'greatest generation'. Still, it's very interesting -- a must-read for fans of King Arthur and folks interested in early Christianity or the late Empire.
