Good film, but wow...what a snobby and snooty girl that Mary is during the meeting, as for Freida, the claws are out tonight girls! Coincidentally, in this and the 1953 SD "Gossip", both victims are named Jean>

Synchronization was off. Good 1955 film showing what damage gossip can do. Well acted and directed.

Subject: Pep Prez? Pshaw!
Another amazing Centron production, who are seriously rivalling Coronet in the production of looney Social Guidance films. In The Gossip, Jean almost has the nomination of Pep Club President (!!) in the bag. All that is needed is Laura to do a background check on her. That's when the skulduggery comes in. A couple of mean girls see to it that Laura overhears a couple of untrue nasty rumours about Jean. Even though Jean and Laura are best friends, she tends to believe the gossip, and gives Jean a failing grade for the possibility of Pep Prez. Confronting Laura, Jean complains to Laura.. How could she do this to her? And of course, the film brings up the big question mark... What would you do? Highly reccomended!

Shotlist

A high school girl's experience illustrates that gossip is not based on facts, is incomplete, leads to misinterpretation, and that the guilty person is usually an accepted member of the group who causes trouble in an underhanded way.
Ken Smith sez: Deserving, altruistic Jean is nominated for Pep Club President. But Laura, her best friend, refuses to endorse her nomination -- because she believes the falsehoods being spread by "Frieda," the gossip (later star of The Snob, another Centron classic). There's almost as much suffering and heartbreak in this production as in Social Acceptability. An enjoyable film -- if you're into high school girls being catty as hell.
