Great Speeches and Interviews with President Carter and others
Hear President Carter, Scott Horton interviewing Bruce Fein and Anthony Gregory.
"Jimmy" Carter, Jr. was the thirty-ninth President of the United States from 1977 to 1981, and winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002. Prior to becoming president, Carter served two terms in the Georgia Senate, and was the 76th Governor of Georgia from 1971 to 1975.
After leaving office, Carter founded the Carter Center to promote global health, democracy and human rights. He has traveled extensively to monitor international elections, conduct peace negotiations and establish relief efforts. As of 2007, he is the earliest living president and the second-oldest living president.
Jimmy Earl Carter speech is titled "Energy and the National Goals - A Crisis of Confidence" and was delivered 15 July, 1979.
Scott Horton Interviews Bruce Fein. Bruce Fein, former Assistant Deputy Attorney General in the Reagan administration and co-founder of the American Freedom Agenda, explains the broad powers over Americansâ property claimed by George Bush in his new executive order, "Blocking Property of Certain Persons Who Threaten Stabilization Efforts in Iraq." Fein says that Senator Hillary Clinton's property could be seized under this order for "undermining the Iraqi government" by asking the Pentagon if they have a plan for withdrawal, which she was denounced for doing just last week by Deputy Secretary of Defense for Policy, Eric Edelman. Also, he speaks about the American Freedom Agenda, the Unitary Executive theory, the "living Constitution," NSA spying, National Security Letters and administrative subpoenas.
Bruce Fein graduated from Harvard Law School with honors in 1972. After a coveted federal judicial clerkship, he joined the U.S. Department of Justice where he served as assistant director of the Office of Legal Policy, legal adviser to the assistant attorney general for antitrust, and the associate deputy attorney general. Mr. Fein then was appointed general counsel of the Federal Communications Commission, followed by an appointment as research director for the Joint Congressional Committee on Covert Arms Sales to Iran. He recently served on the American Bar Associationâs Task Force on Presidential signing statements.
Anthony Gregory discusses how war destroys liberty rather than protects it and American foreign interventions since World War I have only set up for the next one. Anthony Gregory is a research analyst at the Independent Institute, a public policy research organization that analyzes government policy and suggests nonpartisan, peaceful, free-market solutions to today's social and political ills. He is also a policy advisor to The Future of Freedom Foundation, a guest editor for Strike the Root, and a columnist for LewRockwell.com.
