He was named Sacramento police chief Thursday, Dec 13, 2007. Joined department in October 1979 as community service officer and worked up through the ranks with 20 years of experience as a supervisor. Named deputy chief August 2002.
Rick Braziel has a B.A., communications studies, 1986, CSUS; M.A., communications studies, 1993, CSUS; M.A., security studies, 2006, U.S. Naval Postgraduate School.
Rick Braziel received Sacramento Police Dept.(SPD) Silver Medal of Valor, 1988; SPD Distinguished Service Award, 2001; SPD Unit Citation, 2002.
He and his wife, Karen, have five children between them. Competes in marathons and triathlons. Is co-author of book on community policing. Father, Dick, served in department for more than 20 years.
