Greg FoxReshaping the Stars (September 19, 2006)

Would you like to try our new video/audio player ? (beta!)

"Reshaping the Stars" is an allegorical consequence of the demotion (and demolition!) of Pluto - in my science-fiction fantasy piece the evil scientists actually DESTROYED the ninth planet, sending shockwaves throughout the solar system, not only affecting the planets but the laws of acoustics as well!!!

The CD is formed by three chunks of sine-waves (and now for something completely different!), taking low versions of the planetary pitches and longish durations for the eight planets as their starting-point but instead of using 'Carmen of the Spheres'-style octaves they each use 'shattered octaves' caused by the destruction of Pluto.(Yes it's far-fetched!!)

The three parts are as follows:

1. Pith (14m36s)
2. Phi (28m21s)
3. Piq (36m2s)

'Pith' (pronounced Pie-th, like "dice" with a lisp) uses the ratio of 1 : 1/pi instead of 1 : 2 for the octave;

'Phi' uses the ratio of 1 : Phi;
'Piq' (pi-quarters) uses the ratio of 1 : pi/4

(When pronouncing the titles of the tracks in one continuous sentence it is in fact ok to say "pith-phi-pick" rather than "pieth-phi-pike"!)

If you don't understand what I meant when I glossed over the concept of "low planetary pitches and long planetary durations" please refer to "Carmen of the Spheres".

Notes

This is the final part of my "Carmen of the Spheres" project and a direct response to the tragic removal of Pluto from the Solar System :-)
