Greg Fox(temp-final) CD album (February 2006)

A CD album of aggressive, disjointed tunes with an emphasis on the apeing of popular genres and gestures. Mixture of improv and semi-indeterminacy

Notes

This album is a combination of things - on the one hand there's a few old scores which haven't been played, so have been turned (fairly crudely) into computer music *instead*, which is as close (I swear) as I'll ever come to writing computer music which pretends to any analogy to live instruments...... on the other hand there's new pieces of chance-music, though obviously I take my "no ego" responsibillities extremely lightly and mix and match as I see fit - ultimately just because something began by chance doesn't mean you shouldn't touch it..... anyhow, this is the closest I've come to contact with the people I admire in what used to be called the "popular arts" - in particular there's obvious references to Sonic Youth, to Codeine and to God-is-my-Co-Pilot. Equally at other times there's moments which are like concert music, particularly perhaps 'Punch variations', which is a derivation of my piece 'Variations' for violin and piano, though here with most of the violin part turned into piano (some of the pizz was left in for incongruity purposes) - the big divergence between literal fake chamber music and this though is the extreme treatment of amplitude......
This isn't by any means a 'representative' album but it's not a bad place to start, particularly as most of the files are a lot smaller than the ones like 'Boxing Day Retreat' where the files are long and space-consuming (at least in 2006 terms!)....
