Jack Perrin in Another C Movie
I've seen the same plot in another C western - can't remember what its called or who was in it. A gang of protection racketeers leave the East for the easy pickings of offering protection to ranchers out West - pay up or your cattle may wind up dead or disappear. The FBI, becomes aware of this scheme and sends Jack Perrin, he of little charisma, out West as an undercover agent. He meets a beautiful girl Ethel Beck (Jean Hess) - its love at first sight - at the train station out West and ingratiates himself to the point of being allowed to stay at her father's ranch - then on the ride home by car, he wins over her father by helping capture a thief. People sure are friendly out West. According to IMDb, this is the only film she appeared in - and no further info is available. The bad guys are stock Eastern-type gang characters, including a wimpy hit man Ralph Peters (Dopey) who can only be effective when another henchman plays the violin. These guys drive around in a big fancy car and wear suits and ties - you can be sure they're the bad guys. A number of westerns regulars, often bad or comic relief guys, show up as good guys: Earl Dwire (Uncle Joe Hess) is quite amusing, Ed Cassidy (Tim Hess), and Horace Mutphy (Sully). The real stars and heroes of the move are Starlight, Perrin's horse and Brave heart, Becks family's German Shepherd. The action consists of a lot of riding and driving and a few fights. Perrin doesn't wear a gun, so we'll have none of that gunfight stuff. Everyone rides and drives back and forth until its over.
