Subject: please explain
why spend so much time and effort and then offer 64kb files? I think you deserve much better than that, kind taper, sir. Everyone should adhere to highest quality standards possible just as a "thank you" to the taper's work. Imagine if you made a true work of art and it was reduced to a 4th generation faxed copy circulating around the office...

I usually offer a beer, and make extra sure not to talk loudly while in front of the mic rig...

agree fully with the last reviewer. My ipod has 80 live VBR concerts on it from the archives and I have no complaints with the quality.

Subject: How to know which one to download
Picking the files you want to download depends on what you plan on doing with the music. If you want to make high quality CDRs to listen to in your CD players, download the .flac files, which you can use to burn perfect quality CDs. More information about FLAC can be found at http://flac.sourceforge.net/ FLAC is a wonderful audio compression that is lossless, so what you get is the highest quality possible. However, the files are large, and cannot be used in normal MP3 players. To download them, save each file from the links provided in the middle of this page, or log in with an FTP program to the archive.org server and que up the files to download. I recommend using the DownThemAll plugin for Firefox also. Most average or basic computer users might find FLAC difficult to understand at first, but with a little research, it's just as easy as learning MP3 for the first time.

If you want to use these music files in an MP3 player such as an iPod or Zen, download the VBR MP3s. You will find a link to a .zip file up towards the top of the page and to the left. VBR means Variable Bit Rate, which means that the MP3 encoder will use varying rates of compression to keep file size manageable while providing very good quality. They are lossy files, however they sound very good.

I do not recomend the 64Kbps files. The file size is very small, however the sound quality is very bad. They are the same quality as are played in the flash player at the top of this page. Trust me, the other files are much better quality. Don't get the 64Kbps files.
