Hussalonia founder Jesse Mank performs a solo acoustic show on Buffalo State College's radio station, WBNY 91.3 on October 4, 2004. Owing to construction in the student union (and a persistent jackhammer), Jesse performed in a hallway next to an open fire door, creating a strange and intimate atmosphere. This recording was made from the live, mono, radio broadcast.
Normally, bands and musicians perform in a spacious "lounge" area of WBNY's studio, affectionately coined "the checkerboard lounge" for its black and white checked walls. Unfortunately, on the date of Hussalonia's scheduled performance the persistent sound of a jackhammer could be clearly heard in the checkerboard lounge owing to renovations being made to the college's dining hall. A quiet, acoustic performance would not be possible.
Everyone walked around looking for a quiet spot to record. Finally, Hussalonia founder Jesse Mank was set up in a narrow, back hallway leading to the emergency exit. The fire door was kept open to keep cool on this uncharacteristically warm October night in Buffalo. As a result, you can occasionally hear wind, trees, and college students walking through the campus: certainly less intrusive than a jackhammer.
Further technical difficulties resulted in the eventual use of a mono recording made from the live radio broadcast.
Plagued with difficulties, the show still produced some fine performances worth hearing for fans of Hussalonia, including a cover of Bachman Turner Overdrive's "You ain't seen nothin' yet.".
