This 1941 detective who-done-it tries to maintain excitement with fast talking characters, but falls short. I've seen better work from stars Joan Woodbury and Ricardo Cortez. Watching it, I wondered whether the cast and crew had seen the script before shooting started. Phil Rosen, veteran director of low budget films of the 1930s and 1940s, kept the film moving despite itself. He directed 5 Sidney Toler - Charlie Chan movies, including 3 of the worst, as well as
Phantom of Chinatown, the last Mr. Wong movie, and one of the best.
I downloaded the DivX file. The video quality is fair, audio is fine.
